Invest in PCPM, businesses told
06 February 2012
Businesses that invest in PC power management (PCPM) could save upwards of £23 per machine per year, according to an industry expert.
Rhonda Ascierto, a senior analyst at business and technology consultants Ovum, says that power management is "becoming a necessity" in IT as energy costs rise.
PCPM solutions are also environmentally sound; leading to a 40 per cent reduction in PC power costs, she writes in a blog post for GreenWise.
Although this equates to a saving of 380 kilowatt hour per PC per year or over 265 kilograms of CO2 per user per year, Ms Ascierto believes many IT departments are failing to acknowledge these benefits.
"[They] are not motivated to deploy PCPM because typically IT does not pay the utility bill," she said.
"Without visibility or accountability for desktop operating costs, power management can be viewed by IT administrators as an inconvenience."
